Why Fresh Skincare is Best for your skin
I originally started working with formulations when I studied the science behind herbal remedies and essential oils. Advanced dermal therapists are taught that by adding certain actives (or topical nutrients) to the skin, we can then “trick” or “feed” the skin into behaving a certain way.
Generally, we work to correct skin conditions. Take, for example, premature ageing; we define premature ageing as a skin condition because the client’s skin has been damaged and as a result, the skin has aged prematurely. In this particular case, we know that the centre of the cell needs to be stimulated back into action; by doing this, we increase cellular turnover, therefore rejuvenating the skin.
The nucleus (or centre of the skin cell) is the energy centre. When we age, the cells energy slows and therefore cellular turnover slows down. In this case, we want to increase the rate of renewal to promote lovely, dewy skin. So, I will head to my toolkit of actives and treatments and select the ingredients that will work to increase the energy of the cell; this ultimately creates a rejuvenated appearance to the skin.
Over the years, my own personal toolkit has extended into a variety of natural ingredients. I now have a repertoire of herbs, essential oils, and nutritional plant extracts that I use for each condition. If you head to our website, The Stillroom, you will see that we have separated each of the skin conditions into categories in our shop and on our blog. Slowly, over time, we will work to add more information for you to help you manage your skin problems. In the meantime, you are most welcome to email us with any questions that you have.
In all cases, I firmly believe that the freshest ingredients get the best results. Just like a freshly picked berry will have the most antioxidants, so will a crop of freshly grown herbal ingredients be the most effective. In a lot of cases, I custom blend on the spot for clients.
At the beginning of our skin health mission, we made the batches fresh every morning. Now that we have grown, keeping up with demand has become a little bit of a challenge. I have spent some time looking for sources of preservatives that work with our own ethic. I am so pleased to have found a preservative that has been approved by the Soil Association. This is wonderful news, as our products can now stay stable without you needing to rush to the fridge each night! This is why we believe that the freshest ingredients are best for the skin. to To get the most out of your skin care products, be sure to keep your products away from direct sunlight and direct heat. Heat degrades the beautiful potency of our formulations. You can purchase your products fresh from our website or keep an eye on our Facebook page or website for updates on which markets we will be at to refill your travel tins with a fresh new batch of skincare.
As always, you are most welcome to email me with any questions about your skin. I am more than happy to help.
